Family firm pulls through recession to take accolade
A Hull-based holiday home manufacturer launched less then three years ago has been recognised with a national award. Europa Caravans was founded in March 2009 by Don and Graham Oades. The two directors established the company at the height of the recession – a time when many other manufacturers were shedding staff.

However, as holiday parks had postponed updating their hire fleets until the market improved, fewer second-hand vans were entering the market, thus driving demand for new models.

And within weeks of launching, the company's then 15-strong workforce was working six days a week to meet demand. Now Europa Caravans has been recognised as a 'Small Business Star' by Yorkshire Bank – the only company in the region to receive the accolade...

Something Old, something new - Who on earth would start a new caravan company in a recession? Graham and Don Oades, that’s who! Janet Lumb went to Hull – where else – to meet them.
The name Oades may be familiar to you if you knew Graham’s father, Keith, who sadly died just a year after he sold his then holiday home company. He was also Don’s brother, which makes Don Graham’s uncle... So it’s in the family blood to make caravan holiday homes....

You have managed to create 2 fantastic caravans at reasonable prices, yet again! The Popular 28 x 10 x 2 bed sold within a few days of its arrival. The Cypress arrived yesterday and great interest has already been shown in this model. Quality at its best! We didn't even have to clean it before it was viewed! Well done!
